Classwork and Participation Policy
I expect you to be prepared, respectful and responsible in math class.
You will start off each marking period with an A+ as your classwork and participation score. If you fail to follow our class rules or participate in class, you will lose up to five points from that score.
Homework Policy
Homework is extremely important because it allows you to practice what we are learning and also allows me to see how well you are doing. All homework must be neat, organized and complete. In addition, all math homework must be completed in pencil. If you are having difficulties with your homework, please let me know and attend extra help on Thursday mornings.
Homework will be checked and collected throughout the year. You will start off each marking period with an A+ as your homework score. A missed homework will result in a deduction of five points from that score. Incomplete homework or homework completed in pen will result in losing up to five points from that score.
Homework Grade Starts with 100: √+ = -0 points √ = -1 point √- = -3 points 0 = -5 points
After three missed homeworks in one marking period, a letter will be sent home that must be signed and returned.
Math Notebook and Binder
You will have a Math Notebook to keep all your math notes.
This notebook helps you to be well organized and provides an immediate reference for any math concepts that we learned this year. Your Math Notebook is expected to be legible, well organized, complete and up to date.
In addition, you will have an organized math binder with 3 sections. (Warm-Ups, Unit and Review)
You will keep all your warm-ups throughout the year in your warm-up section. You will keep all your math practice sheets, homework and activities in your unit section. You will keep all your study guides, practice tests and review sheets in your review section. We will recycle our unit sections at the end of each Unit Test.
Tests and Quizzes
Tests: You will be taking a Unit Test after each unit. (All Unit Tests will be posted on our class calendar.) Prior to the test, you will be completing a study guide in class and a practice test (similar to test) for homework. It is strongly recommended that you use these materials along ith your math notebook and warm-ups to help you prepare for your test.
All graded Unit Tests must be signed by a parent and returned the following class. If a signed test is not returned the following class, a deduction of five points will be taken from your homework score.
You can earn extra credit on your Unit Tests by making your test corrections and/or completing an extra credit assignment. Please refer to your “Math Extra Credit” sheet located in the front of your binder or visit our Math Documents page to download a new copy. If you score below a 70 on a test, you are required to make all the corrections for extra credit.
Quizzes: You will be completing warm-ups and activities throughout the year in math class. I will collect and grade several warm-ups and activities that will count as a quiz grade.
Quiz Grade: √+ = 20 points √ = 16 points √- = 14 pts (5 Graded = Quiz Grade)
In addition, your Math Notebook will be collected and graded as a quiz score at the end of each marking period. Please refer to your “Math Notebook” sheet glued to the front cover of your Math Notebook for further information.
Math Mid-Year Test, New York State Test and Math Final Test
You will be taking a Math Mid-Year and Math Final test that will count towards your grade in math class. In addition, you will be taking the Sixth Grade New York State Math Test during the week of March 9th.
